M-FC Agar Base

M-FC Agar Base is used for the detection and enumeration of faecal coliforms using membrane filter technique at higher temperature (44.5°C).

Composition	Formula in g/L: Tryptose 10; Proteose peptone 5; Yeast extract 3; Lactose 12.5; Bile salts mixture 1.5; Sodium chloride 5; Aniline blue 0.1; Agar 15; pH 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C
Preparation	Suspend 52.1 grams in 1000 ml distilled water containing 10 ml 1% Rosolic Acid. Heat to boiling to dissolve the medium completely. DO NOT AUTOCLAVE. Cool to 45°C and pour into sterile Petri plates.
Storage	BioScien M-FC Agar Base should be stored between 10-30°C in a firmly closed container and the prepared medium at 2-8°C. Use before expiry date on the label. On opening, product should be properly stored dry, after tightly capping the bottle in order to avoid lump development due to the hygroscopic nature of the product. Improper storage of the product may lead to lump formation. Store in a dry ventilated area protected from extremes of temperature and sources of ignition. Seal the container tightly after use. Product performance is best if used within the stated expiry period.
Appearance	BioScien M-FC Agar Base is Light yellow to greyish yellow, may have slight green or blue tinge homogeneous free flowing powder. Prepared medium is After Addition of 1% Rosolic Acid: Red coloured slightly opalescent gel forms in Petri plates. should not be used if there are any signs of deterioration (shrinking, cracking, or discoloration), and contaminations.
Specimen	For clinical samples follow appropriate techniques for handling specimens as per established guidelines (11,12). For food and dairy samples, follow appropriate techniques for sample collection and processing as per guidelines (9,10,13).
