Staphylococcus Agar 110 Medium
Staphylococcus Agar medium is used as a selective medium for the isolation and testing of pathogenic Staphylococci.

| Composition | Formula per liter of medium: Tryptone 10.00 gm; Yeast extract 2.500 gm; Lactose 2.000 gm; Gelatin 30.000 gm; Sodium chloride 75.000 gm; Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate 5.000 gm; D-Mannitol 10.000 gm; Agar 15.000 gm. Final pH (at 25°C) 7.0 ± 0.2. ** Formula adjusted, standardized to suit performance parameters. |
| Preparation | Suspend 149.5 grams in 1000 ml of purified/distilled water. Mix thoroughly. Heat to boiling to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Resuspend the precipitate by gentle agitation to avoid bubbles and pour the plates while the medium is hot. Alternatively, cool the medium to 45 - 50°C and add blood or egg yolk if desired. This medium may also be used without sterilization; it should be boiled for 5 minutes and used at once. |
| Storage | BioScien Staphylococcus 110 medium Store between 10-30°C in a tightly closed container and the prepared medium at 2-8°C. Use before expiry date on the label. On opening, product should be properly stored dry, after tightly capping the bottle in order to prevent lump formation due to the hygroscopic nature of the product. Improper storage of the product may lead to lump formation. Store in dry ventilated area protected from extremes of temperature and sources of ignition. Seal the container tightly after use. Product performance is best if used within stated expiry period. |
| Appearance | The color of BioScie Staphylococcus Agar medium media is Cream to yellow homogeneous free flowing powder. Prepared Medium of Staphylococcus Agar medium is Light amber coloured clear to slightly opalescent gel forms in Petri plates. If there are any physical changes for powder or signs of deterioration (shrinking, cracking, or discoloration), and contaminations for hydrated media, discard the medium. |
